History Of Post 262

Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 was organized in October 1919 in the old firehouse building in Arendtsville. The Legion derived its name from a local hero of World War I, Ira Ellsworth Lady who died on November 22, 1918 after receiving a severe wound during the Meuse-Argonne offensive. In 1932 The American Legion moved to West York Street in Biglerville. Because of rapid membership growth after World War II the Legion had top seek larger quarters. The Legion was then moved to East York Street to a property that was later sold to Steven and Violet Ondek in 1966 after construction was started on the current location.

In 2023 a new front entry was added for better handicap access to the building.
